Get ready to rock your world—literally! Join us for a Rock Solid geology adventure led by retired Elon University geology professor Elizabeth Pratson. As we trek along a 0.8-mile stretch of Cedarock Park, you’ll uncover the secrets of North Carolina Piedmont’s wild patchwork of ancient rocks—crafted, crushed, melted, and reshaped over millions of years. You’ll even be strolling across the leftovers of old volcanic arcs. How cool is that?
Along the way, you’ll learn to spot standout rock formations and track down sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks that help tell the story of this landscape. We’ll also swing by the old rock dam to see what geology secrets it's been hiding all these years.
Expect a short climb, a brief steep descent, and plenty of chances to geek out about geology. Lace up your hiking boots and let’s rock this hike!
